Psi Chi Volunteers!

CCSU Psi Chi works to help both our school and our community. Here are some of the events and activities we have done in the past!
Friendship Center Kitchen

February 11-12, 2016

We had two groups of Psi Chi members spend some time at the Friendship Center in New Britain, volunteering our time helping out in the kitchen. When we arrived at the Friendship Center we signed in and were introduced to everyone that is in the kitchen regularly. After being shown around the kitchen, we helped sort the food that had been donated. We also served dinner and helped with the cleanup after. The staff and residents were extremely appreciative of the help and invited us to come back to volunteer again in the future.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Donations

November & December, 2015

During the month of November we collected donations for Thanksgiving food items to provide a family in need with a complete Thanksgiving dinner. During December, we collected toys and gifts for children and families and donated items to the Friendship Center in New Britain.

Sandwich Heroes

Newman House - South Park Inn

September 23rd, 2015

Three of our very own Psi Chi members got together to volunteer as “Sandwich Heroes” at the Newman Center. This is a program that helps feed homeless people in Hartford, CT. We prepared and bagged over 100 sandwiches of bread, cold cuts, and cheese. The sandwiches were then delivered to the South Park Inn Emergency Shelter in Hartford and distributed to other people without homes in the surrounding area. For more information about the shelter, see their website (http://www.southparkinn.org).

FoodShare Volunteering
FoodShare - Hartford Regional Market
Mar 27th, 2015

A group of Psi Chi members met at the Hartford Regional Market to volunteer with Foodshare. Foodshare picks up fresh produce from grocery stores and restaurants in the area. The food is still edible, but for various reasons cannot be sold by these companies. Foodshare takes this food which would otherwise go to waste, and sends it to homeless shelters, food banks, or distributes it directly to people in the area. We all agreed that the morning at Foodshare was a huge success; our few hours of work directly impacted people that day who received our freshly bagged peppers, tomatoes, and onions. We definitely plan on volunteering with Foodshare again, and hope that more people get to experience this great opportunity with us next time!

Allen Street Clean Up
CT Makes a Difference
Oct 25, 2014

Psi Chi officers and members met up to volunteer on Allen Street in New Britain to assist CT Makes a Difference. Over a couple of hours we raked leaves and picked up litter. With all of the volunteers combined, we picked up over 20 bags worth of garbage!

CT Makes a Difference is a week that encourages residents of Connecticut to get involved in their community. They list a many different opportunties that people can help out with across the state.
